SR Series Turning Tools
The SR tool series is a collection of 5 different tools: SR00, SR15, SR20, SR45, and the SR60. All of these tools are the same, except that the number after the SR indicates the degree of the angle at which the stainless steel bar stock is set. Each of these unique angles can be used to achieve optimal results at the discretion of each individual wood turner.
Unlike any other tool, the SR series tools have a unique insert holder that can be adjusted to any cutting angle for the most efficient cut. The tools are designed around a stainless steel bar stock so you have absolute knowledge of the angle of attack or approach to the wood surface. This is very helpful to the hollow turner where the tip cannot be seen. Since each turner prefers their own angle of offset, our tools offer 5 different angles.
Each of the tools have an insert holder that is made of 3/8" round stainless steel stock that holds either a 6mm or 10mm round carbide insert.* Each tool can hold either of the holders, but each holder can only hold it's specific insert size. This feature allows for flexibility, efficiency, and ingenuity. With one tool, a wood turner can use either a 6mm or 10mm round carbide insert.
The 3/8" insert holder is held in place with 2 allen screws. An allen wrench is provided with each order. With slight adjustments to the allen screws, the insert holder is able to slide within the bar stock to any desired specific cutting angle. However, the optimum cutting angle is typically within 30 to 50 degrees.
The tools are made from a 3/4" stainless steel bar stock to provide plenty of weight and stability. The tool comes either handled or unhandled, as you prefer, in a standard length of 8-1/2" with a 1/2" by 2-1/2" tang. Each tool can be custom machined to any length for the deep hollowing turner. We can also make any SR tool with a 3/4" to 2-1/2" tang to fit in a standard arm brace handle.**
* The insert holders are specific to the size of the round carbide insert and so will only hold either a 6mm or 10mm insert, but not both. Therefore, if you wanted to use both inserts on one tool, you would need to purchase separate insert holders (one for the 6mm and one for the 10mm).
** Any custom order will have a processing time of 4-6 weeks.
